1049. This is picture 1048 processed with Paint Shop Pro Geometric Effects. The rectangular picture was stretched out at the top (as if it were made of rubber) till the "vertical" lines were really vertical, it was made into an inverted trapezium. With this process there is always some image loss on both sides because you have to "cut" something off to make it into a rectangular again. The process makes the building look too tall and too massive.

I choose this composition because the horizon continues in the line of the bicycle path and thge basalt in the top of the windmills. The windmills find an echo in the fence poles. All I had to do, was wait for a big wave and a bird at the same time. You can see the power of the wind in the waves, in the wind mill and in the bird. The whole picture rotates as it where around the vanishing point: Water, unarranged rock, grass, arranged rock, bicycle path, grass, vanes of the wind mills and sky.

661. The moors between Hilversum and Loosdrecht.
I just managed to keep the sun out of the frame. With my left hand I held the camera and with the right hand I could shade the lens to keep the direct sunlight out. The VR-lens is ideal when you use only one hand to hold the camera. A VR-lens corrects the possible vibrations of your hand. Even better is a tripod, but I hate dragging along extra equipment, and furthermore you only have a few minutes with lighting situations like this.
The vertical white lines top left are birch trees.

652. On the left the reflection of a few small trees against the blue sky and on the right the reflection of trees in fall colours. I took a number of pictures from different angles. Completely blue, completely reddish brown and with different ripples in the water. Eventually I posted this one because it looks like the water was painted by an impressionist, it's almost as if you can see the brush stroke.

651. Long shadows of trees. A sun low in the sky often gives the best lighting for a landscape because there is more texture caused by the shadows. The advantage of autumn is that the sun doesn't travel in a steep line.
So you have more time to photograph. The light is often not so hard because of the moisture in the air.

They want to built a road like the A1 in picture nr. 535 right through this beautiful nature reserve. The A1 runs on the edge of this area. After a lot of protest they changed the plans to a tunnel under it. According to a lot of people this is also not very good for the area.

I often get the question which filters I use, the answer is: none, except a UV-filter for the protection of my lens.
If you look straight up on a clear day you will notice that the sky is much more blue there.

This picture was taken from the same position as the previous one. In picture 492 the lens was on 27 mm and in this one on 300mm, those are the extreme positions of this lens. This road is called "De Rading. The footpath in the previous picture is on the right of this road. This is the bicycle path on the left of the road. The row of trees between the bicycle path and the road was moved to the left a few years ago to enable the widening of the road.
This too is a normal colour photograph, you can still see the blue in the round sign in the distance and the green in the lamppost on the right.
Our house is about 100 metres to the right.

488. Bicycle road along the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. This is a very busy waterway which connects the port of Amsterdam with the river Rhine. Amsterdam has a connection with the North Sea by means of the Noordzeekanaal (North Sea canal)
Note that the waterlevel in the canal is much higher than the surrounding fields.

I finally made the switch to digital photography. Till now I used a Nikon FM from 1979. My new camera is a Nikon D50.
A disadvantage of digital camera’s in my opinion is:
1. The sensitivity to dust on the sensor when you change lenses often.
2. The dependance on batteries. (Especially on holidays this can be a problem)
The first problem I solved by buying a Nikkor-zoomlens with a reach of 18-200, which is the same as 27-300 in 35mm camera’s. This is an incredible reach. I don’t have to change lenses anymore now.
Up till now I used a 28-85 and an 80-200 zoomlens, both Nikkor. The new lens has a greater reach than the two old ones combined and I can go even closer in macro.
The lens has a built-in VR-stabilizing system, vibrations are compensated up till 4 stops (according to Nikon)
With a normal lens of 300 mm you should actually use 1/500 sec. without a tripod. Under ideal circumstances maybe 1/250 sec. With this lens you can use 1/30 or 1/15.
The second problem I’m going to solve by buying a converter. It turns the 24 volts of your car battery into 220 volts. With the charger you turn the 220 into 7.4 volts.
From now on the photographs will be shown larger.
